First of all why do U wanna ask that? Its an employment based visa that ur GC is based on. So, ur employer shud ask that. Why are u asking IVans to do something which is not in their control??? However, the reason is that the most skilled graduates from India (and China) do not stick around for long there, and are actually to be found here! Without checking the raw data it is impossible to comment on Mr Wadhwa's assertion regarding ease of filling positions in US vs India/China. 1 point we should make to the lawmakers is to make an administraive change to give 3 years extensions and abolish 1 year extensions. As 1 year extensions are not suffecient a very solid case can be presented for that case.
1) Driver license, lit of state doesn't give DLs if you have less than 1 year left on Visa
2) H1B Extension is taking 4-6 months
3) No Visa stamping in U.S.
The problem are just too many we need a proper channel to raise our voice to them
Also we need to ask for some accountability and transparency in the Backlog processing. All of us (victims) with LCs in the backlog centers have been reduced to foolish gamblers trying to figure out what is happening with our applications.

If the USCSI didnt have enough applications to be assigned the VISA , then why are they so conservative in making the cutoff dates move ahead. What is the harm in pro-actively moving the cutiff dates, to amek sure no visa gets wasted.
A cut-off date avoids submission of AOS applications with PD after cut-off date. In my opinion, this was the only reason to retrogress on July 2: avoid AOS submission whose PDs became current in July.
Now nearly all AOS applications have been submitted. Hence, setting cut-off dates conservatively is not that motivating.

I been a member of IV for a long time and just to keep myself anonymous for a while I created this account. I am so sorry for opening a thread in a completely irrelevant forum but I have no idea what to do. So, I request all the members to please help me by providing some kind of information.
Here is my story:
I came to US in 2002 and completed masters and been working since then. I got married couple of years ago. Whatever the monetary gifts the girls parents gave as part of the marriage, I put all that in an account on the girls name within 2 days of the marriage. We came to India and from then on the problems started. She and her parents want me to separate from my parents and support their family by sending money to their parents which I couldn't do. How can I leave my parents in their old age when they worked very hard to give a decent life. She has been harassing me mentally for this all the time. Recently her parents have been threatening me saying they will file dowry case in India if I don't send money or cut myself off from my parents. I provided for the girl in all possible ways, even encouraged her to join school to get a masters degree which she stopped soon. We had a baby recently and my parents visited us to help us with the baby. She started harassing them too by saying something or other.
I am very frustrated at this situation and I don't know what to do. I am on H1B and applied for 485 too. At times I feel like applying for divorce but when I think about my little baby I am not able to take that step. The house we currently live in, I bought long before the marriage. It came to a situation where we cannot live together. I cannot ask her to go out of the house because she doesn't have anywhere to go and with the baby even if she leaves, it will be very tough. I talk in USCIS standards. They mentioned in last weekly report that they are compliant till 7/1/2007 but actually that was 6/29/2007.

I was also under the impression that Bank need not ask for Immigration Docs as long as I have good credit history and PayStub to prove I can re-pay the loan, but they (GMAC) is asking for 3yr continuous VISA from the date of closing.
The Loan Processing officer dont have any clue on VISA / Immigration procedure.
please share ur experiences or advice on how to handle this situation
Getting a bank loan is only dependent on showing that you will be able to pay it back. NO IMMIGRATION STATUS documents are required as long as you have SSN card. If SSN card says "Only with INS Authroization", then bank may ask further questions but if you are clear, the loan will be cleared. There are no legal restrictions.

So, they want us to create an awareness and buyin from decision Makers.

I agree. This was always there and it is only now that the government has acknowledged it. Mr. Oppenheim has given us ammunition to build our case and we must use it wisely.
Maybe we can have a have a "send fax" feature on IV from where we can quote Mr. Oppenheim's statement to send a fax to our senators. Also, it is high time that IV is a paid site even if it is $1 per month or 1 cents a day i.e. $3 per month. As I suggested in the past, new members/ visitors should be allowed to read the forums but to post a question or reply to a question one should be a paid member. I am confident that even with $1/month of 1 cent/day we will do better collections that we are doing now.
